Background
The disease scrapy occurs in sheep due to a complex interaction between genetic factors and the environment. Genetic factors influencing scrapie have been identified in the PrP-gen. There are three amino acids (136, 154 and 171) at which the genetic variation is established in the DNA test.
Result
s vary from sensitive to scrapie (V136) to resistant (R171).

Age
The disease may show itself on different ages, in which it cannot be estimated when the first symptoms may show themselves. Differences may exist between littermates, and between breeds.
Throughput
Normally the result can be expected within 15 working days. This turn-around-time starts when both the sample and the fully filled-out and signed submission form have been received.
Location of disease or trait
This disease leads to a loss of brain function.
Breed dependence
For this test samples from all breeds are accepted.
Sample type
For this DNA test we accept the following materials: Blood EDTA, Blood Heparin. Please contact PharmaDNA if you wish to submit other material as listed.
Result
The result of the scrapy test show the genetic variation at codons 136, 154 and 171.
Inheritance
The test for scrapie is based on a combination of genetic factors in one protein. The combination is inherited together.
